The Tasmanian Christmas

Christmas is a truly special time: a time for family and food, relaxation and celebration, and here at Hill Street we are absolute believers in all of these things!  We start planning our famous Christmas Order Form months in advance, to make sure that your Christmas is stress free.

So, what’s on the list this year?

So glad you asked!  This year we're featuring the best and brightest old favourites and new local products to make your Christmas extra special.  New season berries, premium Tasmanian ham, beautiful cakes and treats from our local bakeries, and much more!  We have wandered the countryside, and searched high and low, to bring you the best Tasmanian products.

Free range Numurkah Turkeys

As many of you will have heard, Nichols are no longer producing turkeys.  This has meant that we have had to look a little further afield this year.  Given our commitment to sourcing ethically raised birds, this year’s turkeys will be coming from Numurkah in Victoria and are an entirely free-range product.  However, due to the requirements for transporting to Tasmania, they will arrive to us frozen, meaning you will receive a thawed bird with your order.

Win your Christmas on us!

This year we are once again running our Christmas competition, whereby one customer from each of our stores (including the Salad Bowl and Bayview Grocer) will win their Christmas order on us!  To be in the running simply place your Christmas order, in store or online, by Sunday 14 December.  Winners will be notified by Wednesday 17 December.  Full terms and conditions are available at: www.hillstreetgrocer.com/christmas

Tasting the food (yes please!)

From the beginning of December some of the products from this brochure will be available for tasting over the delis in our stores including: rolled turkey breast, rabbit galantine, Hill Street glazed ham, our homemade deluxe seafood pie and Salmon Wellington.  These products will be available over the weekends during December, so keep an eye out for these products in our delis and please feel free to ask for a taste test if you would like!

How it works

You can place your order here in our online store, or by using the paper order form over the counter in store - whichever you prefer!  When ordering, just select your items, pay your deposit, specify your pick up day (either 23 or 24 December) and pick up location (one of our five stores). You will receive an emailed or mailed confirmation and order number.

Need something outside of what’s listed here?

We emphasise that customers only need to pre-order the items listed in this brochure, as they are either items which need to be produced especially for Christmas (for example turkeys and hams), or are the sorts of things that tend to be in short supply at Christmas time (such as strawberries and raspberries).

We assure you that we will have virtually unlimited supplies of most things right through the Christmas period and there is no need to pre-order anything not in the online Christmas store or on the order form.  Instead, you will be able to shop in store for these items, when you come to collect your Christmas order.

Other orders (including regular online orders) will not be available during this time

We regret that during the week before Christmas we cannot fill orders for any items outside of our Christmas orders. This includes the BBQ chickens that are available from our delis.  This is because our resources are stretched to the limit during this time and we want to be able to provide customers with their Christmas orders quickly and accurately.

Please note that Hill Street Online will be closed from 19 – 26 December inclusive, though you are still able to place orders for a later date during this time.

What size, you ask?

We will allocate preferred ham and turkey sizes, and other items which may become short in supply  (or run out completely if we receive larger than expected orders), in the order that they are received – so please order early to avoid disappointment.

Pricing and sourcing of fresh produce

Naturally we can not give firm prices for fresh produce so far in advance but we guarantee that our pricing will be highly competitive and produce of our usual high standard.  Products marked at “market” price will be the best possible market price on the day and we will wherever possible match a competitor’s price for the same item, weight and quality.

Please note that we may need to source produce from suppliers other than those mentioned above, in the event of adverse weather, crop failure or other reasons for short supply.  In all cases we will endeavour to obtain the best possible quality produce available.

Pick up procedure

Come to the store on your collection day with your order confirmation and order number and give it to one of our staff. They will locate your order while you do your other shopping.  Your order will then be ready and waiting for you behind the counter when you are ready to check out.

It is important to keep (and bring with you on collection day) your order confirmation and order number, and please make a note of the name under which you made the order. This will help us to locate your order speedily.

Our busiest time on 23 and 24 December is the early morning, so please consider visiting the store a little later in the day to avoid delays.
